Message body. I also have experience splicing into old harnesses. I STRONGLY advise you take your old harness completely out, paint the engine bay then put your replacement harness in. I won't lie it will take you a long time BUT, possibly just as long as fixing your old harness and masking it off to paint around it. Replacing the harness is definitely the right way to go. Make sure to take your time looking for how the harness is routed and attached to the chassis. I remember there was only one way to put the harness in because all the mounting holes lined up exactly where they were needed.
